Computer Ethics

Computer ethics (or cyber ethics) refer to ethical issues regarding technology, computers, communication devices, and on-line behavior. This affects more and more people in our society, including young children.

Problems with privacy, security, on-line etiquette, and “truthiness” are some areas of focus. This area spreads into other ethical areas (such as business ethics, relationship ethics, and professional ethics), as information sharing, globalization, and national security gain focus in our culture.

Difficulties with cyber ethics are complicated and inter-woven, and are usually poorly understood by all of the involved parties. As a result, ethical issues are hard to resolve.

Technology has exceeded our philosophy in this area, and is getting more attention and consideration in our laws, businesses, training programs, and universities.

There is a 10 commandments of computer ethics that helps roadmap this new genre of ethics, and provokes thought and consideration.
